Ireland CCPC: Kids-World Recalls 4-Pack Marbled Squishy Cubes Over Chemical Risk

Sep 21,2026

The Irish Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC) has published a recall of the “Squishy Set of 4 Marbled Cubes” sensory squeeze toy sold by LLL Assets Limited (trading as Kids-World). The product is flagged for lacking required toy-safety documentation and for a possible gasoline-like odor — a chemical hazard. Around 49 units were sold in Ireland between 13 May and 8 June 2026. Consumers are told to stop using the set and return it for a refund or replacement.

Product and scope

The recalled item is a “Squishy Set of 4 Marbled Cubes” — a sensory anti-stress squeeze toy sold as a set of four marbled cubes. It was on sale at Kids-World in Ireland from 13 May to 8 June 2026, with roughly 49 units affected. The CCPC notes the product fails to meet EU toy-safety requirements because essential safety documentation is missing, and there are reports of a gasoline-like smell that may indicate chemical contamination.

Why it’s a risk: missing files plus chemical odor

Under the EU Toy Safety Directive (2009/48/EC) and the General Product Safety Regulation (GPSR, (EU) 2023/988), every toy placed on the EU market must be accompanied by a valid Declaration of Conformity, technical documentation, and clear identification of the manufacturer and importer. Missing safety files mean the product cannot demonstrate compliance with limits on phthalates, heavy metals, and chemical emissions. A gasoline-like odor typically signals residual solvents or volatile organic compounds (VOCs) — precisely the kind of chemical exposure the rules are designed to prevent.

Remedy and what exporters should note

The remedy offered is stop-use, with refund or exchange. For small and mid-sized overseas sellers, this case is a reminder that the EU’s compliance net now reaches smaller retailers and marketplace resellers — not only large brands. Since GPSR took full effect on 13 December 2024, non-compliant products, even in low volumes, can be pulled by both authorities and platforms.

Takeaway for makers and exporters

A gasoline-like odor or missing conformity documents is not a “minor” issue — both are grounds for recall in the EU. Exporters should keep a complete technical file (materials, test reports covering phthalates, heavy metals and TVOC), label the manufacturer and importer, and ensure every batch ships with valid documentation. Sensory and squishy toys are squarely in the spotlight after a wave of 2026 recalls across the UK, EU and US.

Sourcing tip: EU-bound sensory toys must carry valid conformity documentation and be free of chemical odors. Small retailers are now within scope of GPSR enforcement — low sales volume is no longer a shield against recall.
